Summary

Started SaaS Spice to connect Kerala's SaaS builders. Then discovered KPH—a thriving tech community I never knew existed. One incredible week: 2 events, 90+ builders, 8 product demos. Kerala's tech scene isn't emerging—it's here, just needed connecting.

A few months ago, I started SaaS Spice — not as a startup, not as a brand, but as a bridge to fill a gap I kept feeling in Kerala.

I've spent nearly two decades in SaaS — mostly in Pune and Chennai. But after moving to Kerala to help build SurveySparrow with Shihab, something became clear: despite all the infrastructure, talent, and intent, Kerala lacked one thing — a connected SaaS community.

There were great products being built. Smart people solving tough problems. But most were doing it quietly, in silos.

So I put out a LinkedIn post to test the waters. No grand plan — just a desire to bring people together.

Within two weeks, SaaS Spice grew to 100+ members — SaaS professionals from Kochi, Trivandrum, Calicut, and even Malayalis working outside Kerala who wanted to stay connected to what's happening here.

A few weeks later, Felix, founder of Kerala Product Hunt (KPH), invited Shihab for a podcast. When Shihab mentioned it to me, he said, "You should check out KPH." During the podcast, he requested Felix to add me to the community.

Until then, I hadn't heard of it.

But once I joined, I realized what I'd been missing — a tight, generous, tech-first community where people genuinely showed up to help, discuss, build, and learn.

The quality of discussions, the depth of product thinking, the willingness to share — it was exactly what Kerala's tech ecosystem needed.

What the Past Week Looked Like

The energy in both communities has been palpable. Daily discussions revolve around helping each other navigate challenges, sharing genuine and honest feedback, and connecting people to the right resources and relationships at the right time. Members actively share wins, failures, and learnings without the usual LinkedIn polish.

Friday: An intimate gathering of ~30 enterprise tech leaders at Hamza Grill, Kochi. Folks like Aswin Shibu (Co-founder, MixRank) and Tony Paul (Co-founder, Datahut) among many others shared real challenges and solutions from their journey of building. Unhurried, insightful, and real.

Sunday: A larger meetup at KeyValue Software Systems, where ~60 builders came together. The KPH team curated around 8 product demos from builders at different stages — some at ideation, others already in market. The panel discussions were equally engaging and informative — I definitely picked up a few things to implement back at work.

The standouts:

  • DesignLumo: A 19-year-old built this chat-to-design editor. What impressed me wasn't just the product — it was his clarity on TAM, positioning, and vision at 19.
  • Meetily: An open-source Granola alternative that caught everyone's attention.
  • Kolo: The founder showcased new AI features helping homeowners connect with interior and construction professionals.
  • buyecomads.ai: A Video-as-a-Service platform cleverly combining AI-generated videos with human touch for professional ecommerce ads.

The energy was electric — worth every minute of a Sunday. And KeyValue's office in Smart City? A world-class workspace — the kind of ambience and infrastructure you'd expect in Bangalore or Silicon Valley, right here in Kochi.

These weren't just networking events. They were proof that Kerala's SaaS ecosystem is ready to connect, collaborate, and scale.

What We're Building with SaaS Spice (and Why It's Complementary to KPH)

If KPH is the go-to space for tech, makers, and product-first conversations — SaaS Spice becomes the home for go-to-market, sales, growth, revenue, and community building for SaaS.

We're not trying to overlap — we co-exist and cross-pollinate.

Our goal is simple — be the bridge. Share what works, learn from what doesn't, and ensure Kerala's collective SaaS knowledge flows freely between builders.

At SaaS Spice, we're committed to helping promising SaaS companies find the right mentors and guidance. Together with KPH, we want to collaborate and make Kerala a recognized tech hub — not just a talent exporter.

Whether you're hosting an event, hiring, launching something, or have hard-won insights to share — we're here to connect the dots by amplifying on our website, social channels, and communities.

What's Next at SaaS Spice

August 9 (Virtual): Marketing in the Age of LLMs — What's Working Now vs Pre-LLM SEO. We covered this at our SurveySparrow office meetup, but folks from Trivandrum and other districts who missed it asked for a virtual session. So we're bringing it online.

August 23 (In-Person): Real SaaS Pricing Experiments & Results from SurveySparrow. I'll be sharing actual pricing experiments we've run, what worked, what failed, and the data behind our decisions. At SurveySparrow office.
